ok , i plan on replaceing the timeing cover gasket and thought i may as well do the headgasket at the same time.
is it easier to do the timeing cover with the head off or lowering the sump? i know the two front sump bolts have to come out.

There are 2 ways in which you can attack this very big job.
1)You can leave the head on and drop all the K frame and suspension in the front and remove the hole sump and replace the sump gasket too.Or if you dont want to replace the sump gasket just loosen but do not take out the sump bolts and you maybe able to jiggle the timming cover from the sump. Or 2)You can remove you head and replace the gasket and then remove all the other components at the front of the engine and remove the front sump bolts and remove the timing cover that way. Either way its a big job,at work it take us between 5 to 8hrs.Bu we also use the hoist. And we also take our time to do everything right the first time so we dont have any oil leaks or dramas once the job is done. Good luck...

i've done both before on a 3.9 but not at the same time.
so i thought why not do both at the same time, take the head off and do the timeing cover, cause i ain't doing the sump gasket,,it's already been done.

Fair enough then.Just make sure you take your time so there will be no dramas once you got it back together and up and running.
