Since my aircon s**t itself last year, condensor and evaperator, and i could buy a new ef for the cost of the aircon i was wondering if i could remove the drive belt from the compressor. Im assuming i would need a smaller drive belt. can anyone tell me if it is possible and what i will need?

cant see it being a drama
BUT im not sure the shorter belt will fint and run withouth the compresor pully since the aircon is never on why bother?

You can on EA-ED, doubt it on EF-BA.
The tensioner would get in the way of the belt running properly, unless you can figure out the way to run the belt so that everything spins the right way still, and bypasses the air-con. If you can figure it out, I too would be interested, as I have removed all parts of my A/C bar the compressor. Cheers, Dave. |

it is possible - when i was looking around for my EF, i found an EF in a caryard WITHOUT aircon. i thought aircon was standard on all EF's....

i was thinking about this the other day, ive always just gone and bought an ef belt and fitted it but it only dawned on me that not all ef's had a/c and i was wondering what belt set up they used.
just out of interest why dont you just fix the a/c second hand parts, in fact i think i have a compressor laying around. |

When the XH Utes were delivered to dealerships they had no AC. In place of the compressor is a bracket and a pulley. So they can run the same belt.
All utes had their AC installed at dealerships. If you can track down one of these pulleys then you could remove the compressor

Funny the way Ford work. All AC on EF/EL Falcon was optional. However they all had it fitted standard in the factory. If you didn't want AC then they had to order the car without it. I guess because most people chose to have it, it was cheaper for ford to install it as they built the car.

yeah it was almost as if you had to option it off.
there is a bracket and pulley that you can put inplace of the compressor as said. not too sure what you would gain from this though, the belt is still going to be the same length and the resistence difference wouldn't be that much anyway i wouldnt think

Ford told me im stuck with it. |
