I have a ford fairmont 89 3900cc's, well when I start it the revs seem to go up then drops again, and when the revs do drop it's like it's starving for gas, even when driving the revs still go's up and down, could it be anything to do with the carby? or could it be points or spark plugs.

Would appreciate some logical feedback on wut seems to be the problem.

Thanks..... :?

wouldnt be points or carby - they dont have either.

There are lots of things that can cause bad behaviour like what you are describing. Dirty injectors, bad plugs or leads, stuffed TPS sensor, the list goes on.

It might be worth your while wither running diagnostics on the ECU yourself or getting ford to do it for you. Chances are it will point you in the right direction.

if u haven't done a general service in the last 5000km or so maybe now is the time. check your sparkies, sparky leads, maybe even ur distributor (not essential), clean you Throttle Body (TB) and maybe get ur air filter replaced. Fuel filter could also be a problem but since yours is more consistent id be looking into getting the TB cleaned out and checked.

good luck

I'd say it is possibly crap H.T leads if they are old they wear holes in the ends down by your plugs and therefore your spark will be escaping and going to straight to ground somebody please correct me if i'm wrong here but definately worth a look into!!!
