hey guys
I dont know to much about the workings of ecus and things, im wonderin what a chip is exactly and whats different about a chip eg/uni-chip and an aftermarket such as a wolf or a megasquirt? Cheers |

The unichip works by changing what the ECU reads from its sensors. It basically tricks the ecu into doing what you want. The downside is that if the ecu isnt tricked properly it will learn around the unichip.
Other chips like chiptorques and 'edits' reprogram the ECU with a new tune. The downside with these (and unichip) is that you cant reprogram them yourself. Aftermarket ECU's either fully or partly replace the ECU and give you all the tools you need to change the tune yourself. You should be able to go into any decent dyno shop and get it retuned instead of having to find a unichip/chiptorque reseller.

so uni chips and chiptorques arent worth the money? do u get any gain in power?

I wouldnt say they are not worth the money. You do get power gains, the worse your tune is the bigger the gains would be. The average gain on an e-series I6 enging would be around 5rwkw, maybe 10 on modded engines.

id rather chiptorque over unichip anyday. as said above with the unichip it tricks the ecu. with the ct thats what the ecu reads every time you turn the key. cant learn around that
