I have finally aquired my first car! an el fairmont ghia by tickford!!! i picked it up yesterday for 5 grand(car dealer friend)!!! it is absolutely beautiful to drive!!! it has the tickford motor, and LSD(v.fun)! i am thinking of putting a engine back zaust, cam, some sort of piggybak ecu or chip! any suggestions? My main questions is this... when i try to skate a corner(private property ofcourse) it wont slide out or even wheelspin and it feels like its lost all its power or tourque or sumthing!! anlso when doing a standstill it gets to a certain speed and just stays there(will not go up), does anyone have any ideas??? my mate who works at ford said it was just the computers torque control function but i am unsure! this is why i want to piggyback the stock ecu to try and delete this function! any help would be apprecitated!! ANYONE???

Indeed. Show your car some respect.

...anyway, your problems come from a lack of power, not ecu torque control.

if its your fist car, i hate to be a buzz kill, but dont "skate" it, youll loose your first car VERY quickly.

anyway, torque control has nothing to "limit" you it just controls the bbm, make sure your tune is right, plugs leads that sort of stuff.

whats the mileage on the motor??

ive got the ef fairmont ghia series 2 (same xr mexhanicals) and mines had no probs losing traction weather it be from a flat foot start at the lights and im talking dry roads (wheelspin off the line-new tyres) or anyway for that matter and that was stock as a rock before i have the mods i do now.. torque control- ahh dunno bout that one, especially since ure mate works for ford..

be good to it. the xr bits with the ghia frills makes these a sought after car from wot ive read on all the forums ive been on ..

tip: take the handbrake off....lol

variable shift mod is wot shiftkits.com.au call the shift kit. price $130.
alot of guys on here make their own but not variable as far as i know, i prefer to buy off the shelf items just for the r and d aspect..

its got the on/off switch plus a dial that varies the shift firmness..the more u turn the harder the shift..

sec cold air- is this. 3 1/2 inch tubing from airbox on mine to the hole in the front bumper where the driving lights go.tube runs under the car to the hole thingy..Image

bumper hole on the right of the bumperImage

. cost -- well i just scabbed the bits from work.. the suction at the bumper is great and seems to make a diff to me on a cold nite anyway plus colder and faster air flow is always good. and no i dont have any problems with water sucked in. gravity plus a small vent stops any of that..

all mods like cam/ extractors/system and blah blah all work well together, rarely notice changes on their own..
