Had fun last night with an XE 351 NOT!!!
So low (temporarily forgot it was so low) i went up a kurb and perforated the sump, just near the sump plug. Just wondering, is it worth getting an aftermarket, bigger sump to fit, or just find a replacement stock one to go back? ALSO, is it possible to just LIFT the engine off the mounts to remove the sump, or does the whole engine have to be removed and put on an engine stand?

The after market ones like Hi Energy are good as they have crank scrapers and windage trays built in, if you want to spend the money then they're not a bad thing.
You can do it by lifting the engine, a b**ch to do but can do no probs. Make sure you glue the gasket in place before fitting the sump, the rubber ends can shift while getting the sump in place, you definately don't want any leaks. |

Have to remove sway bar, undo engine mounts place jack under sump with piece wood as buffer and get the motor as high as you can and chock the mounts with wood and lower jack. undo sump and you may have to also when you drop the sump a little undo oil pick up. Another tip is turn motor by hand so counter weights are horizontal makes for better clearance. I did mine once it wasn't too bad if you have a garage to work in.

Yup thats pretty much it, I didnt have to undo my oil pickup, but that sounds like the process I followed, even the bit of wood under the sump.

From memory the Clevo oil pickup screws into the pump so you can't undo it till the pump is removed!
Correct me if i'm wrong, it's been a few years. Either way, the sump will come out without removing it. |

Either way, the sump will come out without removing it. thought I would mention it just in case because I have done a few different cars over the years in this way but was a litle fuzzy on the clevo. Some others like VK crumpledoor and Toyota Hilux this is necessary. anyway in semi retirement out of game now so dont have to worry, Cheers. |

Yeah thats right paul the pickup does screw into the pump, you may find that the pick up might get snaged on the skimmer tray in the sump depending on the one youo goy, I know my high volume one get stuck every time! but dont be affraid to give it a little yank to get it out of the way.
