my car has been playing up for Fricken ages, once i drive it around for a bit (maybe 1/2 hour city driving) it starts to "surge" under light acceleration and low RPM, idle is rich and i get a strong fuel/sulpher smell after sitting at the light idling for a bit, lettin the car cool overnight (a few hours of cooling does nothing) fixes it (just to start again)
ive replaced friggen well everything and even taken it into a workshop to have a look (i asked for them to check the fuel pressure), but all they did was replace the power steering switch (apparantly it was stopping the ECU from going into learning) reset the ECU and told me to come back a few days later - nothing showed up in the diagnostic codes so they now tell me there is nothing wrong after the switch and reset it runs better but not perfect, i just got around to doing my own diagnostics with the scanner i bought off murray and it shows up code 22 (MAP out of range) during the KOEO test (both persistant and memory) what confuses me is that the workshop i took it to told me quite a few things that contradict everything ive ever learnt, apparantly all my problems are due to me nto having an EL ECU to run my EL motor (even though this problem existed with the original ED motor) and id never heard that having a trouble code logged could stop the ECU from learning properly - also one of the guys took my car for a test run, i said "drive and accelerate SLOWLY otherwise it isnt noticeable" so he jumps in and takes off like michael schumaker comes back and says nothing wrong, i get in the car to leave and have no trouble replicating the problem. This has all left me helluva confused now, as this (reputable) workshop says nothing wrong (but im not 100% of their methods and inability to do what i originally asked), the problem is still there and now a fault code is present when they claimed none were. so, should i follow the fault code and replace the VAC lines to the map sensor (and then check all the wiring) or should i take it back to the workshop (leave it with them so they actully drive it enough for it to play up) and trust their better judgement?

Have you checked you oxygen sensor?Or have checked the oxygen sensor earth lead.If this is broken or not earthed properly your oxygen sensor wont work thus telling the computer to richen the fuel mixture up.I would suggest replacing the map hose and clearing the codes and then reset the computer and relearn the idle.See how you go.
