it's probally time you had the head serviced dude pull the head off and take it in to phillip head services and get them to do a service on it and the replace the tappers do it all right once complete head rebuild won't cost you to much and you'll probaly notice an increase in power

The head doesn't really need to come off. The lifters can be removed (which is your ticking noise) with a bit of patience without taking off the head. If new lifters don't fix it then the oil pump and most lilkely the bottom end is shagged (low oil pressure)
Hope this helps man

A lot of the time it's not the lifters on those things.
It's wear in the rocker arms and fulcrums, as they wear the rocker arms rise up and you end up with too much lash. We used to shave about 20 thou off the base of the fulcrum to close them up... I've done quite a few over the years, it's a cheap alternative to buying new rocker gear. |

Thats true walker but if there is that much wear on the rockers and fulcrums you'd nearly have to think there were other issues, no?

Well like anything, if it's serviced on a regular basis you will get more life out of components.
The last place the oil gets too is the rocker arms. I just suggested it as a cheap fix and something to try before spending time and money of cam/lifters etc. I'm not saying that this is 100% his problem, just stating i have seen it so many times on X flows and Clevos. I done a set of lifters for a guy with a 302 C in an XY years ago, after doing it the f**k still ticked, i took the rockers off and shaved them down and bingo, nice quiet engine. |

so your saying i should take em in to the shop and ask em to shave the fulcrums?.......how much of a better alternative is it than buying new parts?

Get a price on new ones mate, i have no idea what they're worth now... If they're no expensive then go the new option, all comes down to your budget really.
Back then s**t like that was expensive so we found ways to save either ourselves or customers a dollar. |

The only bad thing, you will need to buy a tool to pull them out, they're a few inches down below the surface of the head. |
