Hi everyone,
I want to replace my stock front 4" speakers with some 6" speakers. How would I go about fitting these in? I've heard it's been done, but I don't know the procedure. Do I cut a bigger hole? What with? Thanks! Wes |

the EL's are stock 6" speakers both front & rear - so no cutting is necessary! i believe only EA's & EB's came with 4's in the fronts... so you have no issues at all!

yeah he is right about the 6inch in the front. the 4inch was only in the series 1 of ebs, they then came out with 6inch.

Unless you have an EL that has been wrecked and had EA doors put on in its place ! Or...maybe not.

Aren't the doors the same across EA-EL?

Doors arepretty much identical except for the speaker holes. EA-EB series 1 had 4', EB series 2 onward had 6'.

Just a side note when installing speakers such as the 6.5 Alpines in the stock speaker holes in the EF/EL's. When I did it, before re-attaching the door trims I coated the plastic studs that forms the back of speaker grill in the door trims with Silicon spray and then fixed it back onto the door. I then immediately removed the trims again and checked the rubber surrounds of the speakers and sure enough, there were wet marks on them where parts of the door trims touched the surrounds. And this is with the stereo not even on.
To try and get around this, and not install spacers I cut off the plastic studs/blobs that would be closest to the speaker surrounds and then stuck a few small rubber blocks on the speaker baskets to keep the trims away from the speakers. It makes the speaker grilles in the door trims slightly less rigid, but I haven't seen or heard any problems with them. |

When I looked at taking out my stock rear speakers to put my 6x9's in the stock speakers had a weird connecter on them that doesnt fit most speakeers. How would I change this to get them to fit normal 6x9 connecters?

The parcel shelf speakers? Just a fancy plug - you can either remove it and simply wire the speakers up to the 2 wires on each side (of course, making sure polarity is corect for phase - i think its a negative trace). Straightforward, no need to run new wires as its not a common ground or anything tricky like that.
