So as it stands now you are driving with no brake lights. If you have no idea where the fault is it may be wise to have an auto elec look at it as if you are in an accident and insurance is void due to no brake lights the cost on crash repairs will outweigh the cost to have the brake lights fixed.

unfortunately not, before the stop lamp switch im not 100% sure even where the wiring goes to, the cruise control gets its input after the stop lamp switch..

my old corona had blowing tailights fuse syndrome.
was under the parcel shelf, i *think* it was the wires to the parcel shelf light. auto elec had a nice invention, flood light which wired into an old fuse when then plugged into the fuse holder. just play3ed around with wires until the light dimmed. finding the problem.

if it's blowing without putting your foot on the brake, and your certain your switch is good, your problem isn't in the back of the car.
gaz - thats what i've made up too, i cut up an old fuse and connect a terminal to each end of a headlight bulb. when the light goes out, there lies your problem.

SOLVED!!!!!!!!
Ended up pulling the fuse panel out, checking it all, nothing out of the ordinary there. Went over everything twice, until i found: main cruise loom, where it runs through the firewall, completely out of sight. What has happened is the loom has slipped out of the (broken) rubber grommet, jamming it between the grommet and the steel on the firewall, slicing up 2 wires, over time these have shorted out continually and fused each and every wire on the cruise loom together, melting the insulation away and burning the firewall and a small amount of the carpet. Out come the crimpers, crimps, elec. tape and side cutters, and 4 hours, 12 ciggerettes, numerous cursings later and the problem is all fixed. And this also fixed my cruise control problem, she stopped operating a while ago IM stoked to have found and fixed it, no need for an auto elec now.

With the brake pedal depressed the switch is in "open" position, when brake pedal is pressed the switch is then "closed" to complete the curcuit and in this case there is a short in the system causing the fuse to blow. This switch could be classed as N/C (normally closed) its only open when pedal is at home postion. |

What is it with Ford and pinched looms! i had a problem last summer. The wipers started on their own and then blew fuses if the wipers were in the off postion but didnt blow fuses if they were on. Well to cut it short the loom running from the drivers kick panel up into the pillar had been pinched/cut by the chassis and shorted. Found it after alot of fault finding.
