Hi guys,

Im getting a rough idle in my ED auto when I have the air conditioning switched on. The needle moves erratically (never over 1000rpm) and there is a sort of a clicking sound which if I didn't know better I would almost say sounded like a gear change...

This also happens when Im moving at very low speeds. At the car park this morning it was very annoying as my car would be going "click click click" with the rev needle moving up and down very fast.

Doesn't seem to be a problem with air con switched off or with the heater switched on.

Any ideas?

If you heard a ticking sound .... to me it sounds like spark is arcing and shorting out somewhere.

Suspect a lead shorting out to the engine.

if its ticking inside the car i dont know but if you go outside an its ticking near the motor area get it looked at by an auto elec. as this is what mine was doing (no rough idle) turned out to be a f**k compressor. ended up seizing an snapping some shaft in half. total cost including new compressor $1300, costly little exercise so u might wanna get it looked at.

try cleaning the throttle body and isc solenoid with throttle body cleaner. it solved my problem. the ticking noise could possibly be the ac compressor cutting in and out because the rpm is so low.

I'll take a look at the ISC tomorrow. I also think it is probably related to the compressor because like I said there are no issues when the air con is off.
