Hey guys,

Iv'e got a stupid question to ask. Will a manual box out of an xr8 fit a normal i6. Just cause im lookin to change to manual and all i can find is bloody manuals out of xr8's for au's. Does anyone know what exactly i will need to change to a manual. I know i need ECU, gear box, pedal box, is there anything else i need????

hi
the gear boxes are much the same but the v8 box has a shorter input shaft so to use the box from a 6cyl you have to change the input shaft and bell housing...the same if you use a gearbox from a v8 into a 6 cyl..

Yes, but the other way around. The V8 input shaft is the longer one, so to put an I6 T5 in a V8, you need a custom built input shaft (as well as the correct bellhousing). The XR8 box has a few subtle differences inside too.

PLEASE tell me where these plentiful AU XR8 manual boxes are & how much they are asking  I've been quoted $735 to reco my EB XR8 T5, & that price is if I take the box out & put it back in myself. I thought the I6 T5 was very easy to find compared to the XR8. eBay has about 3 of them up at a time, usually from E series Falcons, but they go pretty cheap & will fit behind an AU I6. The trading Post here in Sydney also usually has more than one listed at a time.

As for anything else you need, I think you have it covered. The tailshaft & starter should not need changing. The console of a E series only needs the geearshift surround swapped, so you may find the same for your AU. You may need to trick the starter relay into believing it is in PARK though.

There is a few at the wreckers up here that i rang around. I will get the names for you when i get back home from work. I was hoping to get an au manual box for mine but to get an i6 manual box is practicly impossible. So an e series i6 box will fit right. Any issues with using an earlier series box in an au or is it pretty much a straight swap. I still need to get a bloody manual ecu though(impossible). Can i just get an aftermarket one for the manual??????

I think the shifter is in the wrong location if you want to run an E-series box in an AU?
