I'm flying to Melbourne (from Perth) next week to pick up my shiny new EB XR6 and drive it home. The car has the four headlight ED XR front. Before the big drive, I want to upgrade the headlights, so I was wondering if anyone has experience with such things, and could tell me what type of globes they use (H3, H4 etc). Also, how powerful can I go without overheating and blowing the globes?

they are h1 and h3 , pretty sure high beam is h1 low is h3, i think the narva +50 globes are what most people are going for, i find my XR headlights on my EF (same headlights as ED) are heaps better than the standard h/lights

Dont go for bigger wattage, I have seen a guy use 100w globes, and burn a head light.
Just get opti whites, white nights, or similar.

Got the car, and she really is beautiful . 4300km without using a drop of oil or water, sitting on 140km/h in 40 degree heat without the temperature gauge going even close to half. Only complaints are the odo and tripmeter dying, a chipped windscreen and rooted rear shocks - all easily fixable.
As it turned out, it already had good headlights in it, so I didn't need to get new globes. There is, however, one problem: when the high beams are switched on, the low beams go off - switch off high and the lows come back. I've never met a car that did this, and even if it is right I don't like it. I don't yet have a workshop manual or any wiring diagrams, so I don't know where to start looking to fix it. Anyone know what wires have to rearranaged to get high and low going simultaneously? It should be simple enough to run the high beams through the low beam circuit, but I don't know where to start, and I don't want to dissect too much of my new baby. |

Let me be the firs to congratulate you on your new car Looks very nice, but I dont know whether I would have driven all the way over east for a car. All the same, it might be a wise idea to ask XR8Chic or waggin, mre40l, or someone else with an XR. My EB has standard lights still, and the low beams drop out when the high beam come on in mine. But theres more lights going as the h3's go to high beam, but drop low, but the inner h1's light up as well. That and ive added more lights. Happy hunting and hope she treats you well. Howd you go on fuel by the way?

I have the twinlight conversion, which uses H4s in the outside lights so they all go brighter for high beam.
I believe for the XR Series cars a very small wiring mod was made so that the low beam relays stayed energised when high beam went on. It may have been as simple as low beam got wired up to before the high/low beam switch, and that way only the high beams stayed on. Its a fairly easy change either way. Nigel |

looks pretty sweet, but yea, dontgo for higher wattage bulbs, you'll just burn the chrome off the reflectors
