what amp is running your soundstream sub tho? My mate has 2 dvc 15in type r subs and after hearing them i can assure you the 4 12's in bigkev's would pump very, very very loud :D (i believe some of the alpine gear may be underratted :S)

i spent $500 on amp and sub (which was a really good price, i know the owner), sub was brand new team OA dual voice coil 12in (gold coast brand, just check out pics from goldcoast autosalon your bound to see them {DESCRIPTION} ) and amp was used boschmann 4ch.

Sub is rated at 1200W max, somewhere around 700wrms at 2ohm (dual 4) and from the 4ch boschmann amp is almost too loud to sit in my car. Wiring was just over $200, box material probably about $100 (including s**t vinyl on the cheap off another mate whose upholsterer). Altogether for $800 wouldn't spend my money anywhere else :P
