If it does ... your BEM should be working.

nope nothing else works, just wipers, aircon/interior fan, mirrors, thermo fans and headlights. most dash lights (smartlock light is dim) no interior light, no clicking from the engine, nothing turning over on the engine

whats your battery like, it might be shagged. A shagged battery will show 12v when it idle but as soon as you put load on it the volts most often o below 10.

Is your smartlock light flashing in any funny sort of way (flagging error codes)

bem controls things like the water washer bottle, intermittant wiper, boot release, door locks, starter relay and a couple of other things. on fairmont and up, i'm pretty sure it does the cluster/dash light variable dim, power antenna and variable intermittant wipers.

A quick test for battery without test meters is to turn the headlights on and try staring the engine. If it just clicks and the lights dim to almost nothing its either a flat battery or a faulty battery terminal. If no lights dim the starter motor isnt engaging or being sent power. The next thing i would do is if an auto check the inhibitor switch on the auto or if its in park/neutral.
