Unless you have shares in an oil company & enjoy the sound of pre-detonation pinging, DO NOT block the EGR. It is there to allow leaner burning at cruise, which your EECIV is programmed for. It also LOWERS combustion temperatures, which also helps the effeciency & makes the lean burning more stable. In fact, I reckon you should get some carby cleaner & clean yours now.
Pretty much repeating what I said earlier but, if the car is well maintained, the ONLY cheap trick that actually makes a difference is porting what you have, ie. stock heads & intake (next cheapest is the AU heads/intake alternative). Next comes replacing the other engine chokes, ie. extractors & exhaust. Beyond this and you can still get some impressive gains, but you will see diminishing returns (in accaleration) compared to the $$ spent the further you go.

Do tell how stopping exhaust gasses commin into your intake will make the engine use oil?????
Have had mine blocked off since i brought the car 3 years ago and have had no such issues, All the EGR dose is cool down the combustion temp to reduce the amount of NOx produced by increased combustion temps.

Oil companies refine & sell petrol & I suppose reducing NOx emmisions was a stupid idea too?? No, no, it's OK, the greenhouse effect is just a myth
