I've got a BA XT with the optioned sports suspension. It says on the brochure spec thing that 17" wheels (with 225/50) with the sports suspension are mandatory.
I want to just get a cheap set of 16" standard rims I can use to play around on the track but this mandatory 17" thing has got me a bit buggered. Will something bad happen if I use 16" rims with this "sports suspension"? Cheers |

nah i wouldnt expect so. Its a marketing thing not a safety thing. Police cars come with sports suspension and 16" rims.
only issue will be if the tyre placard for the car only lists 17's and above, at which point technically 16's arent legal for the car and thus not covered by insurance when running these wheels |

of course, insurance code of conduct says they have to believe what u tell them unless they can prove otherwise, so if u bought the car 2nd hand u could tell em its always had them wheels since u got it and u didnt know

I doubt insurance would cover the car on
the track.... If you do go to 16" wheels, I would suggest that the set of tyres you choose give you the same rolling radius as your 17's. There is a calculator on this page.... http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html |

it may have something to do with clearance on brakes or components?

Your speedo may be out... 16's are generally much smaller rolling diametre than 17's.
And if you have traction control, it may cause an issue with that. |

225/60/16 should give the same rolling diameter as your 17's but may not handel as well as your 17's due to more sidewall flexing
