I may have a offer of 140 for a EA T5 without 2nd gear plus the internals of a EL T5.

Is it possible to build one decent trans out of these parts.

And for 140 is it worth doing it or can i just get a manual else where thats in full working order and the same price.

Also, rebuilding the trannies is easy right. I have rebuilt a holden 202 before so with the help of a manual it should be ok?

Thanks guys

Yes the internals can be swapped over, but i think you do need some specialised tools to do it. I remember hearing somewhere that the t5 is very difficult box to rebuild as all the bearings are pre-loaded. There are a few rebuild guides floating around the net though that you should be able to find with google, they will give you a better idea.

T5's are nothing like the old aussie 4 speed... you could build 20 M21's in the time frame of one T5!

as above... they have tighter clearances and preloads... the average person cannot 'rebuild' it.

sure you can pull it apart and slap it together and hope for the best...

ohh and wasn't the person on the 'other' forum offering the T5 with blown 2nd for 50bux?

And is it the countergear thats blown or the cluster gear?

If its the countershaft... I don't think the EL one can replace it as the gear ratios are different!
