yeh man if its in your budget then amp because that way your safe if you wanna upgrade a little later on, and as twr7cx said, the sound does sound better from an amp, even if you dont need the power that the amp provides, but really thats up to you and your wallet.

I'm guessing if he's on a budget then like mee hasn't got a headunit with a full eequalizer, or any other fancier features.

yes true valid point :P these days tho fairly decent equalisers are coming mith the low-mid range priced headunits.

if he's that low on budget then i dont think he would be thinking of replacing all the speakers and possibly amping...

well for just over $500 thats a pretty budget upgrade in my eyes...most spend that on a single sub or less...

too much ... over 25K just in the entertainment system...and costs are still goin on now...its in the shop again :( new parcel shelf, child restraints...a real saga due to engineering and me wanting it all legit n legal :P :(
