I have bad news

My car is ugly.

It's polynesian green, i like that colour, it's nice. BUT it's stone chipped to sh*t, and at one point we had a cat which used to wander up and down the thing, so I reckon there's quite a few scratches on it from the cat.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask is, what's a good price for a spray to get rid of all the chips and scratches? Will it need to be rubbed down to metal, just smooth, or just so it's rough? I know next to nothing about this sort of stuff, so if anyone could help, it'd be appreciated. I reckon the entire car would need to be done.

I got a price of $6600 to get my EF XR6 resprayed but that included new door mouldings, badges, door seals, rubber around the outside part of the indows.
Basically everything to make it look better than new.

Just for a respray I would think in the order of $2000 - $3000.

I got mine done for $3000 which was a full respray (in a custom colour), removing all dings and chips and fitting a (damaged) 2nd hand body kit...

Do it yourself...

I did , and so have many others...

Its not too hard , and any small problems can either be buffed out or fixed at a later time...

Cost is very low...

My car was quoted at $5000 +

I did exactly the same job and colour for under $1000.

Just gotta be confident with the gun...

isnt it funny how people will spend thousands of dollars on stereos wheels engine and suspension mods but they whinge and whine about paying for a decent paint job.whats the average hourly rate for a plumber or a chippie or even your local mechanic but no one wants to pay for a paint job I think some of you need to come and see just how much it actually costs to do some of these jobs.Dont get me wrong there are some rip offs out there but I think a lot of people need to be educated on how much repairs do cost. This is why I started a sticky to guide you guys on what is resonable or not and help some of you learn to do it yourself.
I had one guy ask the question about painting all his door moulds I advised to get a couple of quotes and price all the stuff he needed it worked out 50 more to get it done by a shop as i said to him whats your time worth

WOW man , don't chuck a wobbly... No-one is doin you out of any business here...

Some of us actually like to do things ourselves... so i guess it would be our problem if it doesn't come out right...

Wheres the satisfaction in getting someone else to do it all...

Some of us take pride in what we can achieve by ourselves , its what makes each and every vehicle that little bit unique...

Think about it before you jump up and down on your soap box !

Im not "chucking a wobbly" I realize a lot of people like doing thing thing themselves thats why I offer my advise in a sticky at the top of this section so hopefully it does come out right but if people dont feel confident in doing things themselves shop around and get a few prices and come to realise just how much any good quality job costs
I just get the s**t with people who spend thousands on there car in other areas but have no idea about the hours that actually go into producing a good job
As you said you did yours yourself so you might have an appreciation of the amount of time & effort that goes into it. If you worked out how many hours you spent doing your car and you had to pay someone how much would it have cost you.
