Any advice?

You should be able to lever it out OK. I used slightly more brutal tactics than a rubber mallot (club hammer), but a strong long lever top & bottom should do it also.

As for any other advice, just ensure you have propper gear engagement before putting it all back together. Check it with the bearing caps done up. It should turn freely (as freely as before dissassebbly at least) or it will make excessive noise & wear prematurely.
