That's about as legal as a 14/71 running carbs on a post 86 car.

why extractors the boss runs headers you waste your money on extractors to get a very small gain in power

Go the twin 2.5" mate - sounds good especially if you have a manual.

I have a 5.4 Boss in a sedan with the split twin 2.5" custom exhaust all the way into quad tips out the back.

Whats eveybody's thoughts on X pipes, or balance pipes? I have one on there at the moment, but was thinking of cutting it out to get an even better rumble out of it, as there will be no connection between the pipes if I do so.

I know I might lose some torque, but what will happen to the sound?

I recall dual exhaust systems on V8s in the old days never had these and this is the first of many V8s i've owned with dual exhausts which has one.

Cheers
Ken

sound much better with the balance pipe. I hate the popping sound of twin unjoined pipes. really really gay!

Popping sound? Do you mean the clapping sound like the old v8s had? Or a just a crackle?

Would it really make a dramatic difference to the note?

I'm keen to get it to sound as close to the classic Ford V8 rumble as possible

I am interested to hear from anyone who has a split system on their Boss without a balance or X pipe who could give me some advice on this.

Cheers

That description is yours and yours only. :)
I like the bang of any Windsor note, more so when it's deeper.

I have 12 inch Manta dogs in centre and 14 inch lukey dogs at rear on a 2 1/2 inch system.. Finally after a few $$$ got the car sounding the way I want it... Idles a good note also and no droning.

Heres a pic.. :)
