Hey guys, getting bit tired of the heavy steering in the FBT and thinking id like to hook up the speed sensitive steering IF its all there n easy to do..
Ive heard its an easy enough job, just need to connect something, but thats all i know and that aint much! Does anybody else have any more info on this as Id like to know if its possible or not, if not i will just continue to work out the upper arms while in carparks i guess! Anyone?

It is certainly noticable over my old fairlane and def over a fairmont ghia steering..
Its fine at higher sped, but at low speeds WHY it needs to be like this I dont know, I think SSPS is more suitabe for a daily driver that firms up with speed, seems to make sense to me! At the moment when other peopl drive my car they jump in and they get a shock as they go around a slow corner, all FBT's have this 'feature' lol. As I say tho, ive ad it like this for 2 years almost and had no dramas really, just a small change what would be good.

i thought SSPS was meant to tighten up at high speeds and easier to turn at low speeds? does it work in oppposite? if so thats just gay.

No thats right, its tighter the faster you go..
FBT is just hard all the time, the book calls it "sporty steering feel" or some rubbish which i rekon they should have left alone or modded slightly but not deleted on the FBT. Bloody Ford!

but i thought they came with SSPS.....the Fairmont Ghias came with them standard so im guessing it would have come with the FBT....guess i was wrong o_O.....sorry im not much help but im guessing its just changing some switches....shouldn't be too hard.

Darren at FTG would know, but I would assume it is disconnected or bypassed at the rack and just a matter of plugging it back in.

have you tried asking darren daniel? he said he hooked it up on the one he sold i thought?

Havnt tried asking him, yet, he's a busy man and im sure he gets enough people pm/email/calling/dropping in on him all the time lol.
I am heading to see him tomorrow, if hes not busy Ill ask I guess. btw: fbt had ssps as a delete option, as i said above?

The SSPS is definately there, the solenoid on the steering rack has the wires cut off.
I would think if you find the loom that it plugs into (from memory it is wrapped and taped around another loom) - and lengthened the wires to reach it there wouldn't be a problem. - Maybe the solenoid would need to be replaced but it should be ok. On mine the wiring is definately still there as Ford asked me if I would like it connected. - The tech didn't know what a FBT was and thought that someone had done a dodgy because of a problem with the rack. |

haha, i love how ford dont know half of the models..
often have mine called a fairmont from guys at ford, they reall don know or cant tell the difference! Ok, so the wires are on the rack, now I need to fin1d out where they have to be joined to, thanks daniel

IIRC on my wagon I've seen a bare connector that comes off the loom that branches off the O2 sensor. The connector was rearwards from the O2 sensor plug on that loom, near the steering rack. The pressure switch had a separate wiring run, so I'd always suspected it to be for SSPS.
If this is the case, EL futuras and higher probably have the plug wired in - whether it just terminates at the next connector I don't know. My connector is white coloured, and looks similar to the O2 sensor connector. To check, it should be two pins: 12v ignition power, and the other pin goes to pin 39 of the ECU.

Girly Arms! LOL HAHA Too right girly arms.. its more just something that annoys me on the way home on a late night or if im really tired or trying to get around tight carparks alot.. it just seems unecesary when i know SSPS is right there!
