just woundering why my xr6 turbo seems to be faster on 8psi than on 10psi & also when running 10psi the bov sounds to be venting while exelerating most of the time.

they have self torque limiting, if you try to exceed std boost with a bleed valve, boost controller, then the ecu senses this and retards ign timing...

XR6 turbo computer programming is very very clever, even things like aftermarket air intakes without a flashtune to account for it will often have a negative effect

the 10psi is coming from a herrod stealth tune. + a herrod replacement intercooler so i dont see why any timing should be retarded.

well, perhaps you should be a BIT more specific in your concern details... may make it easier for people to help you...

so now i know those details, you are exaclty right, the timing shouldnt be retarded.. anything else you may know about it you could tell us?? who tuned it? been dynoed? generic stealth tune?? bigger injectors?? bigger exhaust??

its also possible that the BOV cant handle the 10psi...
also check where the air intake tubing goes onto the throttle body, they have a habit of curling the seal over and not sealing properly

What rating is the spring in the waste gate.

If it is 8psi then it will not allow more than that to flow through.

The standard blow off valve wont be leaking, the boost is what closes it, so more boost - the more pressure keeping it closed.

What you can hear is most likely the waste gate letting some of the boost out like aaron said, or you have blown a hose somewhere, which can happen a lot easier at high boost. have a look around your engine for anything not connected, and tighten all the hose clamps you can find/reach.

okay went to a more repretable dyno tuner and got 218rwkw factory tune + intercooler and got 235rwkw 8psi. 10psi was s**t power just keeped cutting in & out ended up at 221rwkw the guy said that generic tunes from herrod where absoloutly crap and suggested that i go to kpm motor sport get a custom tune/new injectors/new spark plugs regaped. so there go's another $1500.

Dude re gap the plugs to .75-.80 and it'll be fine... mine ran like crap on 10psi with the stock gaps. Its a fiddle job to get the plugs out but you HAVE to re gap them... BF comes with them gapped to .80 now so, yes, its important to re gap em

Also, check the bov is conected at the vac pipe tightly, if it isnt the bov will open on anything over 6psi

Yep, i agree, check the gaps. Mine were gapped to .89 for my initial tune, and then when i did all my other mods it only made 260rwkw. Re-gapped to around .75 and it went up to 304rwkw.

Get a custom tune... best money spent in regards to modding these things. Gives piece of a mind, and makes you very happy.
