Hey Guys,

Just picked up an NA Fairlane with SLS. The SLS works, it goes up when you turn the car on. Just wanted to know that if once the car has been turned off, is the SLS supposed to release the air and hence become lower??

Cheers,

Hey,

I used to have SLS in the concorde. It depends on the ground the car is on. If the car is on a slop and the nose is its highest point, the back end will get higher. And opposite if the nose is lower (if you are on a severe down slop the back wheels go under the guard.. looks good) Otherwise on flat ground it might lower itself a couple of cm and that it.

Have a good one mate

Thanks 19concorde for your input.

But maybe I'll make myself a little clearer.
When you turn off the car (ie. remove key from ignition etc) is the car supposed to release the air from the SLS and then have the car become lower?

No. It leaks out sure, but it is not meant to be released on purpose. If you can hear or see it go down, then your compressor will be working overtime to keep the cars bum off the ground.

The SLS springs are pretty weak though. Dad has put a set of raised lovells in the rear of his NA which has taken the pressure off the air system on long trips with a full car. No detectable leak, but the compressor was working overtime, then not coming on after a while without turning the key off, then back on. Much better now with springs that actually do some of the work.

Yes it does release air on purpose, to bring the back end to the datum position.
The pump has a release valve built in for this.
As far as leaks go, the outlet valve on the top of the pump is the one that leaks, due to corrosion. It can be cleaned up, or buy a new pump for 800 dollars. (LOL)

Cool does that mean to lower a fairlane you just need to do the front?

Yes, you could lower the rear datum point by adjusting the connecting rod between the top of the rear axle and the computer box thingy.
