Mr brother just put a new head on his EA. But he has NFI how to line up the timing for the cam and dizzy. The ford manual he has is crap. I haven't had a look yet and thought I would get ask here first.
So how do we do it? Where are the timing marks? How do we find TDC and what do we look at to make sure the cam and distributer are lined up right?

Did he actually remove the timing gear from the chain?
If he didn't (Which there is no need to when doing a head only) then there's no need to do anything, just slip the cam in and line it upto the sprocket and bolt the rocker gear and sprocket on. |

Line the mark on the balancer, with the TDC mark on the timing case.
Then you align the cam sprocket so that the little notch on it is on the right hand side, and sitting about even with, or slightly above, the top of the head. I think off the top of my head that with the dizzy, you have to put it in so that the rotor is roughly aligned with number 1 (you can check on the cap) when the mark on the balancer is aligned with the ignition (IGN) mark on the timing cover. |

it works but you have to be very carefull doing it this way as the balancers have a nasty habbit of slipping and pointing in the wrong place.

Yeah very true, I was going to mention that.
You can find true TDC by marking on the balancer when the pistons come to a stop both ways, and making your new TDC mark in the middle. If you have already put the head on you might need to make up a little tool or something to do this (something that will stop the pistons from having a full range of movement). |

You don't just stick the dizzy in when the mark is lined up, it has to be on #1 compression stroke.... Then line the rotor up to #1 lead.
