I would like to put power windows in my newly aquired ride, an '84 XF Falcon Station Wagaon, 4.1EFI, 5SP, Mags, 2.5" Exhaust+Extracters etc. Is this conversion possible or do I have to go an aftermarket kit?

personally i'd get an aftermarket kit, although i dont know how easy it'd be to fit one to an XF.....
i've got a XF Ghia with all the electric s**t in it atm, and personally, the power windows are the source of most of my trouble so far

The conversion is possible with stock parts, but costly, complicated, and since old will cause problems... aftermarket kits are just... aftermarket. I would do a mix, get the dorrs sorted out in terms of electrics, and then run your own wiring, and relays and switches, and mount them wherever you want. That way you know that what you have either a)works b)doesn't but you'd probably know why.
And about your newly aquired ride.... nice. Never imagined an X series wagon (XD-XF) that looked nice. The colour needs a changing, but a good start. Cheers

you could always try what im going to embark on shortly into an xf sedan.. using eb window motors and switches.. wether it will fit or not time will tell.. haha ill post it up when it either works or fails....

lol, lots of experiments to be had with E series parts on X series falcon... hehee. I still have my auto.. lol... anyway, good luck with power windows dude. They are not only handy but a good safety feature aswell... also you can make them automatically close with the alarm... coool
Cheers

So basically go to a wreckers, get all the parts off a ghia, then just upgrade the electrics of it?
Yeh, the paint work on the car aint the best, lots of stone chips, but I think the colour suits it, although I wasn't fussed on the colour when I first started looking at it. But I don't know what colour I would paint it if I respray it, it would have to be a light colour(so all the dark features look good). |

honestly, i'd put up with manual windows before doing a conversion using XF electric motors...... the only reason mine are still working is cos i've got half a dozen spare motors to swap/scavenge from not if, but when a motor dies
the weak link is the pleastic gear in the gearbox.... the youngest XF power window motor is 17 years old now...... any plastic that old is getting near it's use-by date. especially if it's under strain

So you would use EA-ED motors? and then XF parts for the rest?
Thats what I was suggesting. Makes sense? Cheers

Well, I'm pretty handy electrical wise (I'm a computer tech), and I like DIY, so if I get to Toowoomba again (probably soon) then I'll see what power window gear I can get, then I'll make it work!

Thats what I was suggesting. Makes sense? unfortunately for you, X-series power windows and E-series power windows use totally different motors/regulators, and while it may be possible (with some work) to fit E-series gear into an XF, you cant mix and match the only hope is to collect a few XF power window motors/gearboxes and salvage the best bits
