Has any one done this and can give me some pointers,
I know basically how to do it, I just need some things cleared up for me like do you use just silicon to seal it up and will the standard gear knob fit onto it.

standard knob should still fit no probs.
when taking off teh existing shifter watch out for the nylon ring which the shifter sits in, as you dont really want that dropping down into the gears!

chuck your new one into the nylon ring and then use some sealant around the edges and tighten it up!
wulla!
