driving awall did a cpi to mpfi conversion not starting

try this,

get a piece of insulated wire strip both ends. Connect one end to the pink wire on the mpi loom you just installed and then jam the other one up the back of the tfi module plug. Push it up into the 2nd wire from the bottom of the plug. should be pink, sometimes pink/blue, pink/white.

now see if it starts!


Have you got a multimeter, you need to check for continuity between pin 2 tfi module and the negative side of the coil plug.

ok i put the pink wire on the pink and blue wire on the dizzy and i now am getting backfiring puffing sounds from the car when i try and start it so i asume i am getting spark but i have to let my battery charge an it down a bit today so i cant check spark see how we go though if that is what it was i would kiss you but i will wait till tomorrow

well your getting spark now. what you describe now is your timing. samething happened to my engine when i first tried to start it. try the dizzy stuff i told you tommorrow and i hope you get it going mate.

Smartlock? whats the new ecu out of, if its from an EBII onwards, its probably a smartlock ecu and requires an override module.

nah its definately a ea 88 ecu i am getting backfiring from the exhaust and the intake so i asume i now have spark just got to get the dizzy right i guess dont know

if it's backfiring, maybe you have it out of timing, or even a couple of leads around the wrong way
