HI ALL.

So it another DAMN HOT day in DARWIN. Me and Warlock (DAVID) are working on my XF falcon 85 and there is a PURPLE wire coming from the ignition barrel. It has melted as soon as we connect the battery!! Can anyone PLEASE tell me what this wire is and the cause of it melting??

CHEERS FROM DARWIN!!

wow that's amazing. My neighbour had THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!

Turned out that after changing the dash pads and re-connecting the loom, the silly litter bugger had tugged on the wiring loom and dislodged the grommet, exposing the purple wire to the sharp edge of the hole and consequently shorting it out.

Just to compare notes, was this your issue or should i be looking for something else?

I have to help him fix it tonight.

there are two plugs that are identicle behind the dash (brown plugs) one goes from dash to ignition and one goes from dash to engine bay if you connect the one from ignition to the one going to engine bay then you will create fire lol (it will short out) make sure you connect the right ones up replace the wire you have fried the part that is fried any way and you will be fine

hello to darwin.

Just moved from there myself (glad to get away from the build up!)

I had a similar problem in my brothers 323 sh*tbox banger when he went to start it up and the barrel jammed. Long story short it ended up burning a wire under the dash with a slight fire. Lucky i knew a sparky or he'd still be tryin to start it up.
