Anyone know what the stock max valve lift is for a EL windsor?
I'm trying to do some calculations and need the max valve lift for a stock windsor with GT40Ps on it with 1.6 rocker ratio. I know ELs had E7 heads but with 1.6 GT40P what would the max valve lift be? |

Are you asking what the stock springs will cope with or what valve lift the stock cam gives???

Yeah what valve lift the stock cam gives on 1.6 rockers.

Dude, dont waste your time....the GT40P springs are not even good enough for 5000rpm+ with the (very gentle) stock cam.
They should be the first things chucked in the bin with a GT40P head-swap IMO. |

xr8ute I will be changing the valve springs. I was asking to check for piston to valve clearance.
I'm not sure to whether to stick with 1.6 ratio rockers or go for 1.72 ratio ones. If I go 1.72 then my cam selection cant be too big. I have to select my cam first then get everything to suit it. Thanks sam12h. |

So with .444 max valve lift with 1.6 rockers means the cam lift is 0.2775 and with 1.72 ratio rockers max valve lift is. 0.4773
So I guess as long as I get a cam with 1.72 that the max valve lift wont be more than .540 then should be right. Time to go cam hunting. |

Not how it works dude.
The valves can open as far as they want, the piston is too far down for max lift to ever give a clearance problem. Timing of the intake valve opening & more importantly the exhaust valve closing are the only likely causes of a clearance issue, not max lift. The longer the duration, and particularly the more overlap, the less clearance you will have. When the piston is at TDC at the end of the exhaust stroke the intake is starting to open & the exhaust is just about closed, that is what you need to check.

True that does make sense.
I guess no matter what cam I get piston to valve clearance will have to be checked due to duration. |
