After recovering from the henious price given to me by Ford NZ for AU headbolts (NZ$350) I found these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-HEAD-BOLT-K ... dZViewItem are these just as good or the same? (AU$30) would anyone know of somewhere online where I can purchase an AU headgasket? or perhaps someone would post one to me for a small fee? Sounds like they are AU$80 over there compare to NZ$380!!! please help out a fellow Falcon fan. |

wow... Ford NZ are a rip!
$30 AU and $80AU sounds about right for the headbolts and head gasket. Ford AU only sell the AU headbolts now as far as i'm aware.

yeah criminal prices eh.
I've been quoted $5.25 each for the Ford AU bolts, but there are sets of aftermarket torque to yeild bolts on ebay for $30. are they all the same? $30 vs $73 is a big difference. |

Id be suprised if all the head bolts didnt come from the same factory.
and the $66 head gasket - did you ask him for a head gasket for an AU or a genuine ford AU head gasket?

The ebay item you've listed are Durapro TTY head bolts, and the price is pretty reasonable. Confirm with them the part no HBK3.9,4.0 - they will fit EA-AU falcons. You should be able to get a gasket kit (Durapro DR523HS-D) for around $80-$85 (AUS), this is the same as a full valve regrind kit minus the valve stem seals. If you don't intend replacing the valve stem seals, this is probably the best option.
The most expensive part of the full VR kits are the valve stem seals (besides the head gasket itself). The guy should be able to give you a pretty good deal if you get the bolts and gasket set off him, you would think. The reason I know what they are is that I'll be installing the durapro stuff also. I know my local engine reconditioning place quite well, and they've gone away from the ACL monotorque stuff a few years ago - they've been using Durapro stuff, and haven't had any probs to date. Have a talk to a few engine reconditioning/machining places - they do this stuff for a living, and should be able to give you some good advice. Educate yourself first though (so you can catch them out if they're crapping on): http://www.aa1car.com/library/gasket_failure.htm http://groups.google.com.au/group/alt.f ... 906c1edd3f Although a lot of people will tell you to go an AU MLS gasket, you should be enlightened as to what else is out there, and what the trade offs are between them from the above links. I'm not an expert by any means, but I hope this helps.

Therefore I bought these aftermarket AU ones off ebay. As for the head gasket its a genuine ford AU one as I have also been told to use on here like 100 times. |

Yep, you cant reuse any of th head bolts and the bolts that came along with the AU are better. You can pick the AU style bolts easy as they have more thread.
Just thought id check what you asked for with the gasket because the price you got is below ford retail so he might be giving you an aftermarket au head gasket (which is the same as any old e-series gasket).

when i did the head on my EL about 2 years ago i paid $25 for the head bolts (after market) and all the E series were deleted items so now i have the AU head bolts in as they are better and yes they do have the longer thread and they dont stretch like the E series did.
