Always a good idea!

Cost is around $140-$150 for a Drivetech Unit if you install it yourself.

Around $300 installed.

I had a Ford one installed in my BA as it is still under warranty. One dealer quoted me $440. Through another one it cost me $312

thanks for the quick reply,
just had a quick look on ebay and found a seller for the drivetech for 150, and i also saw a cooler

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... %3AIT&rd=1

it is 35$ which is alot cheaper, and it couldnt be hard to make brackets up, does the trans require some super good hoses or is there something really special about the drivetech cooler compared to the cheaper one?
just looking to see if i can get away with this cheaper

Be careful with larger trans coolers. There is almost zero room under the bumper of an EL/NL Ghia to fit a transcooler. And you dont want one that is too big that will block airflow.

The genuine Ford trans cooler kits are around $155. Come with the cooler, mounting brackets and pipes. {DESCRIPTION}

Davies Criag package a genuine Ford cooler with their own piping and dodgy custom made brackets for $140 from Bursons.

The Ford units are rather small (not much bigger than your palm) and get bagged because of that, but they are effective. After a year of having one installed which included a fair bit of driving abuse, lots of summer heat driving (both towing a boat or jetski and normal summer cruising), the trans oil is as red as the day I put it in. So I can say they must be fairly effective.

Either will require removal of the front bar and a pipe cutter to install. Takes about an hour or so to do the job.

I agree. I had a genuine Ford cooler in my EL. It was in there when I bought the car and it also seem to work fine.

Previously I installed a Davis Craig into my EA. That also seem to do the job.

The Drivetech unit was recommended to me for the BA. Until concern was raised about its effect on the cars warranty. Incidently the genuine ford cooler in the BA is about 3 inches high and goes the full width of the radiator.

What ever cooler you decide to buy, don't use those crap plastic strips to mount it. Buy one with, or make up you own brackets, so it doesn't sit on the AC condensor.

If you look on the drivers side of your radiator, you will see 2 10mm steel pipes below the top radiator hose. The V8 ghias had a trans cooler as standard, but if you want to go bigger this is where you get your pickup from.

if you can afford it get it, will save you getting the tranni rebuilt if you plan to keep the car for a while.

I'll put it this way, we've so far had two cabs an ef and an au2, the ef with small extra tranni cooler from factory just started to shift badly by 900,000k's with the factory tranni the au2 with just the radiator cooler on the other hand has gone through 2 tranni's in the same amount.

There may also be a small factory cooler on the front of the radiator. Mine had one as well as the radiator cooler, but it was the little one that was upgraded in mine. Best way to check is to pull the front bar
