can i get some help with a problem please the timing on my ef seems to be out about 10 deg approx and i thinks this is the cause of my stalling at idle problems but i dont know how to fix i have dont the diag checks and only found the fault for idle ireg. i have also taken of the rocker cover and checked timing this way but it is in line so im stumped can anyone help

if u mean ignition timing, then the only thing that can put it out is if the balancer slips.
there is no way to adjust the timing on an EF.

there acctually is a way to adjust the ignition timing.
In the gregorys manual it shows you how to adjust the ignition timing gear behind the timing cover, without having to remove the cover.
have been told this by a ford nut mechanic.
gotta look into it my self. he says that it is easy as to do and doesnt take that long.

Have you put the engine into "learn" mode to check the timing?

If you think the pulley may have slipped, the way to check is as follows.

Remove spark plug from #1. Insert a screw driver or some othe solid object and have it held in place by someone. You then rotate the engine slowly by hand until the piston just contacts the screw driver. Place a mark on the pulley to indicate this position. Reverse the rotation of the engine slowly until the piston just contacts again. Mark this position on the pulley. The exact middle of these two marks is the correct timing mark on the pulley. You may be out by 180 degrees if you were not on the right stroke at the time. All you have to do then is transfer the mark to the opposite side of the pulley.

err, how do you transfer this mark?

Straight edge on front of pulley aligned with mark you just made and centre of pulley bolt. That will get you pretty close. Or just rotate engine 1 revolution and try again.
