Just bought an XR6 with a Citric Acid paint job - car is pretty shmik however something has obviously been on the bonnet and someone has left polish marks on the bonnet - Any ideas on how to remove it or am I going to have to get the bonnet resprayed?.. Its just frustrating cos the rest of the car is sweet..

to answer for interceptor - burn marks, means it goes through the clear coat, or even the paint, meaning touch up, or a HELL of a lot of poilsh. Whereas if you got swirl marks, all you have to do is go to supercheap, repco, auto1, etc and get "swirl marks remover", funny that.

If you don't know what each one looks like... in exaggurations, pretend you put a round piece of sandpaper, 2000 grit onto your bonnet, and turned it, that would leave swirl marks.

If you sat there with a cloth, rubbing at your paint work at high speed (ie a buffer/polisher) then that would burn the paint, and make it fade, or even go through it..

Sorry for long post. Good luck.. congratulations on your new ride. nice choice.

Cheers

you could also take your car to a detailers. they will have a look at it and let you know the best way to fix it. remember these people do this kind of stuff everyday . dont touch it if you dont know you could do more damage!!

It's a little more involved than that
Those swirl removers you mentioned have alot of fillers in them to hide them but only lasts a few weeks and they are back again
Meguiars Pro #9 SMR, sold at auto parts stores is too mild for most swirls but is a great product to use after stronger SMR's and before Vanilla moose.
A rotary is the only way to get rid of swirls 100% but you can cause holograms if you use it the wrong way

On the car's plate, where the VIN and make and model is.. its under the bonnet, should be on the passenger side firewall... that should give you the colour.

Cheers
