Hey guys,

For a while now my car has been makin this fuked up whine noise when reversing - but it does it for a couple of seconds and then stops. Its really loud and sounds like its coming from the back of the car. The steering wheel also vibrates when this happens. Its especially embarrising in car parks - everyone is like "hey look at the s**t car makin a squeel noise".

But seriously, i've looked and listened everywhere and cant seem to find what is making the noise. Its definetly not my drive belts and doesnt sound like its coming from engine bay. It can also make the noise if i am say on a hill and i take my foot on the brake and the car kinda rolls back a little. The noise will always stop striaght away once the car stops. I'm really hoping its not the auto gearbox. I don't think its the diff as if it was it would do it all the time and not intermidantly.

Could anyone plz shed some light on this for me as I've tried everything and the noise is driving me nuts.

P.S It makes the noise when the car is hot or cold.

just a thought if you say the steering vibrates it might have something to do with the front brakes sticking also check all steering arms etc for binding with the body or other you say its been lowered have the modifications altered the clearance between the steering components and the body

thanks for the reply. i'm pretty sure its not steering related as it only happens in reverse and never when going forward etc. and the noise sounds like its coming from the mid/back of the car.

any more suggestions anyone?

might have to send the old tranny in for a service and see if they find anything..
