Hi guys, to start of I will just say that I am just trying to learn a bit more about cars, so I don't know a terrible amount and I can't do anything to the cars I am about to mention, I was just wonderin what it may be.
Basically we have 2 cars, maybe two different issues. Anyway, I will start off as my Mum's EL. It is her dailry driver, and I have noticed that usually when the car is cold, and you take a right hand turn, the back right wheel will squeek as it goes around. I'm not sure how commonly this is occuring now, but it is pretty much when the car is below normal operating temperature. Secondly is our paddock basher (as such) the ED. Now, it's problem is in the back right wheel as well, and it occurs when taking right hand turns and sometimes when going straight as well. Basically it is a clunking noise and the frequency of the clunk depends on the speed of the wheel turning. This also usually only occurs (that I have noticed) when the car is at or above operating temperature. So yeah, basically just after your comments based on what you know or experiences as to what these may be just so I know, because I do plan on my mother's car being my first car and I wanna fix 'er up and such. mine has been doin the same ...it sucks in car parks when it sqeals and ppl look "hey that f**k ford sounds like its fallin apart" ... lol (like bluecube) but yeh it seems to do it more often in the morning than at night... could just be crap on the rotor? |

when cold it may be the handbrake shoes not completly releasing and dragging a bit, could also be worn handbrake shoes as well, or even bake pads. brake pads are a bit more unlikely though as it would tend to do it all the time, may just be the way the wheel is loading and srubbing on a slightly worn shoe. the ford handbrakes are pretty much a drum set up inside the rotor.. I will be corrected if I am wrong though.

my handbrake is pretty weak, if i put gear in park and put the handbrake on the car will still rock a little bit..

the clunk, could be your suspension bushes. i had a clunking noise coming from the back. was pretty inconsistant when it would happen, sometimes when going round corners, sometimes when taking off. either way, turned out the bushes were really shagged

This is possible, the car has always had "spongey" brakes and they have always been that way, and my mother sometimes complains of the callipers sticking, so it could well be brakes! Yeah, that car has brand new shockies put in (they were dead as when we bought it) but when you bounce the car, the whole damn system seems to creak as if it is about to snap (!) so yeah, little life left. Cheers for your replies guys! |
