That cam is a very popular upgrade for 5.0L Falcons. Street manners & respectable horsepower at the same time. Just make sure your valvetrain can handle the revs & lift. The stock springs are pretty crap with any cam.

So whats involved with upgrading the valvetrain?
You said the stock springs are crap. What do you reccomend? What about the rockers? Do i need new ones? Or change the ratio from the std 1.6.1 (i think) to 1.72.1

If you choose to go with double valvesprings (which I recommend), then the cylinder heads need to be removed for machining.
The springs that are recommended by Crane for that cam are around 120lb closed, and 340lb open. The installed height on the AU heads are about 1.80"....I'll be running the same cam with the Crow 7333 springs installed at 1.78" (~135 closed, and 320 open) I would change the rockers as well, too much chance of breaking a stock rocker with a more aggressive cam IMO. Get the 1.6:1 YT Stealth rockers (ST2047 i think), the 2030 is designed for the 1.6:1 rockers. More than likely, you will need different length pushrods as well. You wont know this until the cam is in and you can measure it properly with an adjustable pushrod. |
