Well I can see a professionally using a high pressure hose properly, but still there would be risks (electrical components). But to do it at a car wash place, spraying all over the place, bit silly I think.

Hi Folks,

Just an update, we swapped the coil from my EL Fairmont, and it worked a treat. So I whipped down to Repco and picked up a new one for $45. So my car is running great again.

With my mates car, it does have a bit of a miss in it. We assume it's coz we took off the dizzy cap, took out the rotor and unplugged everything everything trying to diagnose the problem. Possibly just a broken lead or something.

At any rate, the engine is running, and he's due for a service, so he's going to take it to Ford for one of those $157 specials and get them to fix it. Leave it to the experts I say!

i have allways used the pressure washer at the car wash thats what the button with engine cleaner written on it is for and a garden hose has a lot more water coming out the end of it than a pressure washer. i have never had a problem yet, so long as ya dont drowned the dissy and the motor isnt hot as i dont see a problem, i also leave the motor running while i do it that way nothing gets time to cool down too quick and cause cracks of any type

i high pressue wash mine a bit but not as much anymore due to the car keep on missing but i normally pack it with degreaser let it sit then use a garden hose to rinse it

As krytox said common problem - if he did it when teh engine wa shot that wa smore than likely half the course - Youc an wash yoru engine bay just avoid the electrics!

I have heard 2 ways to do it.

1. when the engine is at operating temp i.e wash it while its still running.

2. When its cold. Then after spray CRC in appropiate places let it sit in sun and dry for a few hours. Worked fine for me when i did it this way, i also put a plastic bag over the alternator and coil pack.

i dont know if i could recommend degreasing an engine while it's running. if u use a detergent based degreaser then no worries but if u use a hydrocarbon based degreaser, they are flammable. get it hot or in the right spot and WOOF

^^^ use the engine & tyre cleaner at your nearest car wash. don't use decreaser while eng is running, as mention TaraHymen.
