Everything on your car has to meet some sort of Australian standard.
Like tire width and off-sets etc.
However you can do anything you like until you find a cop who knows what he is on about or you have an accident.
When accident investigation finds out your car has been modified without an engineers certificate then it goes from being classed as an accident to manslaughter and when you come before the judge for sentencing you'll do jail time.
They know they can't catch everyone, but then again they now got the laws to put you away when things go horribly wrong as they inveriably will.

SO, its better safe to be sorry.

Terrorism killed about 200 Australians in 200 years of Australian history and we spend millions fighting a war on terrorism in Iraq etc.
Motor vehicle accidents due to human ignorance and stupidity, kills about 18000 people a year and every year and all we have is a few silly laws to control peoples silly behaviour.
Your low enough, don't become a murderer for the sake of another silly inch, especialy when you wouldn't know what to do with it, when you get it.
Its not what you got, its how you use it.

I found someone that custom makes springs to the height you want them and there cheap, and safe.
