Hey everyone.
After doing some general maintenance to my EL fairmont...I was going to start her up. But when I put the key in and turn it to ON (engine off) and all the gadgets on the cluster light up...(with the bonnet up) I hear some clicking noises and then a couple of squeaks then silence. I'm guessing before you turn the engine of some of gadgets would turn on to make sure the engine runs. Now just wondering what exactly does have a "test run" shall we say when the key the ignition is on the ON position? So far all I think off is the squeeking of the thermofans... On another note...when I turn the car off after a drive or idle...something squeeks upon shutting down. The thing that is bolted to the top of the TB (ISC I think)...does that have a motor that could squeek? cheers phong =P~

checked for mice? 
it could be your belt, but i doubt it, as you said it happens before you start the car.

Its just the thermo fans stopping, mine does the same.

the fans wouldnt explain the noise before starting the car though.

If you check the fans just before the ignition is turned to start and just after the ignition is turned off it actually kicks the fans a little. Not sure why this happens but have a look and see.

sweet cheers...if its just the fans i don't give a rats a**...some oil should do the trick. if its anything else...ill start to worry.

I had mine out yesterday to check out the noise. It seems to be the brushes on the comm. I just sprayed the inner with CO Contact cleaner then some CRC 5.56 and spun by hand to work it in. Noise is gone and fans operate ok. They are sealed so cant be dismantled.

im pretty sure its the runners inside the intake, my EL Fairy does this too...
Sounds like a door inside it moving to close or open one of them... Only does it when i switch car to ON (like before i start it) i hear the fuel pump power on and the runners in the intake closing

okies cool. i shall now spray some of the stuff joolz pointed out and also check the runners in the intake...BTW the runners you mean that flap that opens and closes depending on revs?
