does it misfire or behave oddly when your driving? or just when at idle.

first thing to check would be the iac valve wich is the tube looking thing ontop of of your throttle body. its held on by 2 10mm bolts and two wires. take it off clean it out, with carbie cleaner/petrol and put it back on. usually fixes most idle problems.

have you disconnected your battery lately? if so, the computer will have to relearn idle.

ALL WRONG, I HAD THE SAME PROB WITH MY EA, SEARCHED FOR WEEKS, TRYING ALL VACUUM OPTIONS, EVEN HAD EXPERTS AT FORD STUMPED, TURNED OUT TO BE FAULTY IDLE SPEED SENSOR. TRY CLEANING IT FIRST BEFORE REPLACING IT. LOCATED ON TOP OF THROTTLE BODY. I READ RECENTLY IN FORUM SECTION A GOOD DESCRIPTION ON HOW TO GO ABOUT IT. 5 YEARS TOO LATE FOR ME THOUGH. GOOD LUCK

Woooh settle down big Nev settle down. My mate also had the same problem with his EF and it was a simple vacuum leak. Sure you can tell people what your opinion and experiences are but no need to come in caps lock a blazin telling everyone that they are wrong.

hi

i have a similar problem ive changed iac and it still did it but for some reason if i unplug the map sensor spray wd40 on the plug and plug it back in the idle goes back to normal it does it every 4 months or so so i just unplug the map and plug it back in and its all ok for a nother 4 months ...
there could be another reason for it like a bad connection but it works for me..

so maybe just un plug the iac and map and spray the plugs with wd40 and see if that helps..

mmm i had the same problem in my ef... would be a little bit up and down at idle, then it would like surge on the highway, but rarly around town. turned out to be cam angle sensor but eb wouldnt have that. i also had a few vacume leaks and a dodgy Pcv valve. might pay to run diagnostics on the ecu and see what codes it returns

If has the original distributor check that and the coil.my ed xr6 did the same thing.replaced these and it fixed the probem.the coil had a small crack and the distributor was tired.not bad for 310 000 kays! :)
