Hi All
Will be doing the head gasket on my EA very soon. Tossing up between using the composite gasket in a VRS set I bought or use an AU gasket. I know most people recommend the AU gasket. My only concern is that I've read that MLS gaskets require an EXTREMELY fine finish on the head and block to allow the gasket to seal properly. The early E series do not have this. The head is not a problem as I was getting it cleaned and decked anyway but the block is out of the question other than a good clean etc. Am I worrying about nothing ??? Has anyone had problems with the AU gasket on an older, relatively "rougher", normal surfaced block ??? Thanks Last edited by gutza on Thu Nov 02, 2006 1:10 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

I've just done mine.. had the head skimmed, and then I removed the sharp edges around the chambers myself to prevent detonation.
block I used gasket remover and a scraper, then used a very fine sandpaper attachment on the drill (NOT a sanding disc or a wire brush), finished off by a light grit sandpaper by hand. Rubbed down throughly with meth. seems fine. |
