hang on do you mean ignition on, dash lights on?

If it's anything like my EB one (as in similar security feature) you just need the radio actually on so you can see "Err" - my car was completely off when I was inputting my code, just the radio was on.

I recently put a code into a locked ED and EL radio, to clear the EA-D ones, you hold the "AS" button for a few seconds for the screen to go blank.

For the EL and onwards, you have to turn your key to ACC and wait. If it's only been locked once, the wait shouldn't be too long.

Troublesome unit, I would put a cd player in but I like the controls on the steering wheel.

Yeah I kinda miss the controls too, still got them on but different head unit now, I just use the remote now lazy I know.
But apparently with some after market headunits audiocom can install a gadget so you can still use the controls on your wheel with the new head unit for around $250 I think they said.
Buggered if I know how it works though, but work a look into I reckon.

Ford charge $1250 for those s**t head units too :S

I went and got 2 codes at the same time from Peter Warren Ford up here and they were free. I even got them written on a free Post-It Note!

If it's anything like how the BA controls work apparently (according to bob^ on caraudioaustralia) it changes the line voltage of one wire from the steering wheel, which in turn the head unit would normally interprate as a particular function.

What these little gadgets do, is interprate the message, but convert it to something the aftermarket head unit can understand.

And there you go, working controls on your aftermarket head unit :)

i went to wignals about 2 months ago after buying a prem unit
showed my receipt from the wreckers, did'nt have the VIN from car it came from it was off the shelf.
the nice bloke in the service dept could'nt find the code from the serial no there and then and took my ph number.
by the time i got home there was a message on my machine from him telling me my the new code and he also updated the radio change on the ford database

no charge :D
