At the moment, i have:

HU: Sony cdx whatever (crap and about to die)
Fronts: Pioneer 6inch 4way coax, 40rms.
Rear: Clarion 6x9 3 way coax 45rms.
Subs: 2 JBL GTO 1202D 300rms x2
Amps: Clarion DPX1001.1 monoblock, and APA450 2,3,4 chan.

About to buy new head unit when cops stop fining me and rego is payed.

Looking at Clarion DXZ666, 766 would be ideal but too expensive.

As For speakers, i want new fronts but could prolly do with rears too since 6x9's are redundant with 2 subs in the boot.

Im looking for cheap SQ, prolly about $500 for front and rears.

I was thinking 6 inch splits in front, and 6 3ways in rear.

Open to all brands except pioneer, and prolly clarion, my relationship with clarion ended when the f**k wouldnt guarantee my f**k sub.

any help appreciated.

I reckon spend the $500 on a good set of front splits and just keep whatever rears you have in there. I am spending $4500 on a system and am still using the stock EL rear speakers because you wont notice them at all while your in the front.

I wish i had all the money ive spent on my stereo since the beginning to do it all again...

or scrap that and make it all the money ive spent on the whole car, i could nearly buy a ba xr6 second hand.

C**T of a car.

I agree with Mooseman... Spend most, if not all, the money on fronts and fade the 6x9's out or down. $500 will get you some nice speakers if you bargain :)

What music do you listen to? I've used a few brands and found certain brands work better with different styles of music. Usually, you can't go wrong with Focal, Boston, Morel, Oz Audio, depending on what you listen to.

I listen to everything.

I found a pair of boston's on some website for $250, they didnt seem too bad.

I was looking at jaycar 6.5 splits, theyre rated at 60rms, i kinda want rms too, i want more than i can use, like i want the speakers to distort around 30 not 25 like the ones i have now do, but i still want to listen to teh music at 25. if you get my drift.

The head unit volume level loudness will be different depending on what amp you get. If you set your gains correctly then the speakers will never distort and full volume will be just below the volume when the speakers distort. Get yourself a decent set of speakers for aroudn $400 and I guarantee they will be loud enough for you.

The Watts RMS rating doesn't mean anything about how they will sound... It is just the amount of power that you CAN put though the speakers without damaging them, in theory.

You could have 30Wrms speakers and 200Wrms speakers and they could be equally loud. It's the efficiency rating that will tell you which will be louder, but companies measure differently so you can't use that as an exact guide either.

Spot on.......... spend it on fronts and leave rears standard.
