Well the time is rapidly approaching where i will need to invest in a new set of tyres. Since i'll need to buy the tyres anyway i'm thinking of upgrading the current 15" ford standard alloys to something a bit more appealing. What is the actual diameter of the standard tyres on the falcon?

What should I be looking at for an ED falcon? 17"? 18"? Also can you fit the larger diameter wheels without also fiiting low profile tyres, call me old fashion but I want a bit more rubber then what the usual low profiles offer (ie more then the usual 2-3" between the road and wheel).

A few mates have had low profiles and because we drive around place with loads of potholes they somehow manage to ding the wheels themselves when they hit a nasty one. I'm thinking that have more tyre would prevent that happening to a degree.

hey mate good to see another coast member,a few people on here have put on 19 and 20" onto e-series falcons without much hassle but it comes down to what you want to spend, you have to bite the bullet with bigger wheels and try to avoid potholes otherwise you will have your car looking like a four wheel drive,or go for 17s offering more tyre with slightly smaller wheel.

i dont think its possible to put higher side profile tyres onto larger wheels, well within reason you could, but no way could you put baggy ones on like you would have on your 15's. doing that would also throw the speedo well out.

as for size guess it depends on how much you want to spend. these days at least 17/18's seem to be the go, with alot of people moving up to 19's and 20's.

e series cars are pretty limited in choice with their offset. so you may want to think about running hub adaptors as it'll give you alot more to choose from.

Are hub adapters legal in NSW? At this time im thinking 17".

dont know about NSW, pure guess id say they are.

theres a bit of variety with 17's in e series offset. el gts, au copies etc.

I recently got 19's, and couldnt be happier. Definately dont look out of proportion from the car like the 17's did at times. So id only go 18's+.
And there are heas of e-series offset you just have to look in the right place, and know the right people.
My 19's are a brand spankers rim and are in e-series offset.

Don't you pay a premium for 19" though compared to say 17"? Are the 19" wheels the ones shown in your gallery? I'm looking at spending around $1500 on a tyre/wheel package, can 19s be got for that sort of price or would they be dodgy?

The tyre profile is limited to a height to match
the existing rolling radius of the 15" setup, ie. speedo
as mentioned by Mash.
Also, your tyres need to clear the bottom joint of the
upper control arm. If you are looking at 17" or larger,
your tyres are definately going to be low profile.

Ive seen a few 17" tyre and wheel packages for under the
$1500 mark. Might be pushing that figure for 19's though.

Well i've just had a bit of a look on the RTA website and apparently adapters aren't legal in NSW unless fitted as factory accesories. Does any one know of any good 17" wheels that fit the ED XR6 without the need of spacers or adapters?

possibly BA XR or GT copies but there is an increasing range of wheels made for e-series anyway so if you look around you should find,ebay even have em i think.
