LPG engines run a little hotter.
They have been using the 15W40 spec oil for ages now on the EGAS engines. There are other factors in oil for the LPG engine that you need to adhere to as well ... can't remember the exact specs though. the Barra 182 engines need a GF3 oil ... and teh BARRA 190 engine need a GF4 oil as well (5W30 for these as well. These are the petrol models though.

cheers, the other gas oil specs shouldn't be a drama as most gas specific oil is 15/40, pennzoil gas/castrl gas etc is all 15/40.
i was just curious if the egas motors run the thicker stuff just because of the extra heat. which i guess they do. thanks for reply mechan1k

also the top ends are different so its possible they run thicker oil because of the differences there...
most BA's ive seen converted to dual fuel run like dogs too... so if its not running right that might not help its case also, check the pcv valve, its common for them to stuff up |

The old dual fuel falcons used to run 10/30 out of the factory and one of the first things to do was switch over to 15/40 after 200,000kms once all the clearances open up otherwise you begin to go through oil and trick yourself into thinking its rebuild time. With the thicker oil there is no oil consumption or bottom end noise dramas at all, even after 500,000kms.

no dramas with gas conversion, runs smooth as.
wil check pcv valve, didn't even think of that. we know youd have to switch over to thicker stuff after a bit but this thing only has 50,000k's on it now, only had 40,000 on it when i started this thread. weve now opted to use mobil s semi synthetic 10/40, its good so far now been in for about 6-7,000. any body know whether pennzoil have stoped making gas 15/40 no ones got any around here. i don't really like the shell offering it deteriotes too quickly, and the less said about the castrol one the better. don't know about any other company that makes gas specific oils.
