As the title indicates, i was wondering if there is much of a difference between the suspension setups between the EF and the EL XR8. I know with the 6 cylinder non Tickford models there was a noticeably different feel between them, but i don't know about the differences with Tickford models, or the 8 cylinder variants...
I am going to be purchasing an EF or EL XR8 in the coming months, is the EL really worth looking for and paying extra over an EF? Obviously a series II EL is preferable but i'm not overly fussed with factory power output. If i wanted to go as fast as i could with the money i have, i'd buy a boxcar and supercharge it. Actually that sounds quite tempting.... shame about the damn handbrake location! And the ugly interior. What am i thinking? Boxcar? WTF??? *slaps self So yeah, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

afaik, suspension on the front is exactly the same between ef and el. All tickford model comes with urethane bushing in the front, and firmer shocks - thats why it feels more solid.
only difference is the rear diff has the watts link a little lower to help lower the centre of gravity. So there would be marginal improvement there. and also i reckon the EL xr8 looks sh it hot compared to the ef. But thats my opinion... |

There are quite a few differences in the suspension between the 2 models. Nothing that you would really see or notice externally.
I remember reading an article where a Tickford engineer said something like "the EF handling is the best we can do. It doesnt get much better. The aim with the EL is to save a tenths of a second or a second off a lap time compared to an EF". So it got a different design and stiffer lower front control arm bush, urethane castor bushes, a longer and lower mounting urethane bushed upper rear control arm, revised shocks and springs plus all the other watts link, etc, etc EL changes. If I had the money, I'd be looking EL. Better engines, better interior/seat design, better looking front end and better suspension. |

I think Big Kev is selling his car for around 9k. Cheap for that price. Nice looking car too.

Yes i agree it's a schmiko example, however one of the main reasons for selling what i currently have is because i'm bored of having gears changed for me
