Hey guys, my auto has a funny thing happen to it lately. When it gets hotter eg. city driving, or long trip hot days, the gear changes thump into gears rather than being smooth. It has a smaller panel cooler on the fron (about 25 x 45 cm), and I just bought a nother cooler from wreckers for 10 bucks. After buying it, I realised its a davies craig 680 (not bad for 10 bucks Anyway, to help overcome heat problem, could you run two coolers (prob a stupid question). And also, is there a heavier duty trans fluid to put in, or is one size fits all. Any help would be great as it would prob prolong box life, and holidays are due and dont want to break down when I should be enjoying myself
Cheers. Mark |

dont run both coolers
just use the cooler in rad then the new cooler from wreckers change the tranny fluid as yours could be old

No heavy duty trans fluid that I'm aware of, just stick with the Castrol TQ95 that Fraud recomend.
Personalyl I'd run the two external coolers rather than the radiator one and one external. The radiator built in coolers have a tendency to fail. |

How long has it been since the tranny was serviced? Could be the ATF getting old as well.

It was serviced about 50k ago, but being older and more tired, prob should get it done. And I like the idea of two coolers on front and by passing radiator one. Just need time to get it all done.
P.S. How much more oil would I need to put in to fill trans cooler up, or just fit it b4 getting trans serviced and let tranny service guy worry about it? |

how much more oil you'll need will depend on the size of the new cooler now won't it. how longs a peice of string?
also remember you'll probably loose some out your lines when you disconnect them to replumb them wityh the new cooler... |

You shouldnt loose much out of the lines...
After youve done it start the car and leave it runnin for a minute to fill the lines and cooler back up. then just top it up, or if u cant be botherd doing it wait till you change the fluid. Im just about to do a full auto flush on my car. the service is just dropping the pan and changing the filter which drains less than half the fluid in the auto(approx 5L) , most of it stays in the converter. The flush is a full change of fluid so although it costs alot more it should work alot better for alot longer... Dealers would charge upwards of 250 id be guessin considerin the flush machines use between 15 and 20L of fluid. 1 of the guys i work with sed to just disconnect the return line to the auto and run the car in park till the flow slows a little then reconnect the line and fill the auto back up... although im not sure if i trust that Good Luck

your going well if you can get 5L's out by dropping the pan, I've only ever found it drains 3L out, which is stuff all considering the thing take over 10L. |
