I've put them back on broken, they can't go anywhere.
The very first EA head i done in the early 90's ended up snapped, but it was still there when i removed the head, the guy who owned the car came over and the phone rang so i went inside, i came out and he was gone, then i seen the thing snapped off.
No f**k way i was doing that job for free so i slipped it into the chain and bolted it back on, it never gave him a problem, and i know plenty of others who've done the same.
If it's a good engine then go buy a new timing kit, if you're not fussed then chuck it back on.

well it leaks from the rear main seal i think (unless it was the head gasket - going by the old owner) so i think ill chuck the old one back in, and still hunt down another one for the 4.0 im rebuilding as its going to be high performance so it needs everything in good nick.

cheers for the reply

Buy a whole kit for the engine you're building mate, you get new chain, guides, tensioner etc in the kit.

i was going to swap the one i have with the one pictured as its only broken at the bottom. but i cant budge the old one out at all so im leaving the broken one in as this motor will only be used till the turbo motor is built
